5 Uncommon Ways God Has Been Speaking To You

You’ve heard it before – God speaks in many ways. The most common being; an audible voice, the Bible, and an inner witness.

But plot twist! God has even more ways of reaching us, and the sad part is: we don’t always recognize them because they don’t look ‘spiritual’ enough.

I don’t think anyone is a master at hearing God 24/7, but these are 5 uncommon ways He might be trying to get your attention:

  1. Restlessness:

Ever being to a place, around certain people or in a certain period and feel very unsettled? In reality, everything should be fine. In fact, nothing looks out of place in your environment. Life is good. Yet you can’t shake off the restlessness that’s growing inside you. You feel like a fish outside of water and nothing seems to be able to take that feeling away. Dear friend, you might be experiencing a call from the Holy Spirit to pause and tune into His presence. Usually, the Holy Spirit has something to say to you and you won’t understand why you feel restless until you actually pray about it.

2. Passion

That thing that stirs you up and sets your soul on fire? It’s not random. It could be God pointing you in the direction of purpose. Sometimes it comes very strong, and other times, it just sustains you, but it is always there: that drive to make a difference.

Dear friend, whenever you feel that passion, you just might be dancing with purpose.

3. Your Circle:

This is one that many believers miss because it happens in seemingly random, everyday moments. But hey, the Holy Spirit doesn’t need drama to talk to you. In fact, the more you grow in your relationship with him, the less drama happens.

When next you’re with your friends who fear the Lord, or with a mentor or leader, keep your inner ears open. God loves to remind you of things He has told you before, but for some reason, you didn’t take them serious or forgot them altogether. Your friend unwittingly brings it up, or your mentor asks you a question about it, or a Sunday sermon feels suspiciously personal. Pay attention!

4. Opposition:

So you finally get started on something you’ve been praying about and boom! Challenges, setbacks and haters start appearing out of no where.

Before you panic and run away (which is exactly what the enemy wants you to do), understand that feedback and pray about it. If you’re sure God sent you in that direction, rejoice that you’re beginning to make enough progress to unsettle the enemy. It could be God letting you know that your prayers and efforts are having an effect. Keep going!

5. Anger

We usually see anger as a bad emotion, but hear me out – there’s such a thing as holy anger. It happened to Jesus, and it happened to Paul when that girl wouldn’t stop pestering him with fake prophecy.

Take note of the things that consistently gets under your skin, but doesn’t seem to bother other people. It could be poverty, or Nigeria’s electricity situation (this particular one makes me MAD!) or it could be injustice… Whatever it is, if it troubles you so much, God might have made it so in order for you to do something about it.

(P.s, If you just have general anger issues, that’s not holy anger, my brother/sister. Please go and pray.)

The point is, we all need to pause once in a while and ask, “God are you trying to tell me something” If not, we’ll keep missing out on these divine moments and think God doesn’t care about us at all, when in reality, He has been speaking all along!

Which of these hit home the most for you? Have you ever experienced one of these moments and later realized that God was speaking? Drop a comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

You’ve just pointed out some of the major ways through which God speaks to His children. They are major because we experience one or more of them everyday—many times in a day sometimes, without noticing that God might be trying to get through to us. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece, Eunice. It has blessed me.

    1. This is actually true.
Though, it takes one who is spirit conscious to actually know what God is saying per time.
This is also a pointer to the fact that our God is never limited, He works in diverse ways.
      This is an insightful write-up.🙌

  2. I was really bless, the first one restlessness it do happened to me but I didn’t know God can speak through that… this is a eye opener . Thank you and God bless you Amen

All these are true. One that I can relate more with the Restlessness I feel when I haven’t followed an instruction from God. Also, the Urgency in your spirit to complete a task.

  4. Very key. Paying close attention. When we take time to pause and ask and listen, we understand better.
    Thank you ✨

Very true. For someone like me, most times God speaks to me through His word or inner witness, but recently I have being learning the that God speaks to me through that restless “feeling” that you just can’t shake off.
